Spring 2011 Fashion Trends (part 3)
By: Dalton Primeaux
Disco Fever is taking over! YSL-inspired 70’s style leads the way in spring 2011. Though some spring trends are dripping with the 1980’s – like the long skirts (Gap has a very affordable, long cotton skirt) and oversized button-down shirts, it seems like the 70’s are making a comeback this spring season. Break out those flared-bottom trousers, and girls start rocking those wide-leg pants. Put away those jeggings! Tight is out; Loose fit is in.
A lot of the models strutting down the runway at New York Fashion Week looked like they were heading to Studio 54. Glitter and gold is definitely hot, especially with designer Tory Burch, who produced an outstanding lame’ top. Marc Jacobs also seems to follow the trend with a pink jumpsuit that seemed to come straight out of a disco. One of the silk dresses produced by DVF stood out for me because of how its length bled 70’s chic. And, you will be excited to know that there is an affordable polyester option just like it at H&M for a mere fraction of the cost. Groovy baby!
